Outdoor Climbing Commonly Known As 'Crag Climbing'
A 'crag' is a mass of rock projecting upward or outward.
We run Individual and Group Crag sessions throughout the spring and summer. Individual Crag Sessions run for 3 hours. If you or a group would like to experience a full day of Crag Climbing then please contact the centre.
If your school or youth group would like to experience Crag Climbing please contact the centre and we can try to organise a session to accomodate your requirements
Typically we go to nearby places such as Auchinstarry, Neilston and Bennybeg. Other locations can be used and sites are usually no more than a 30 minute drive from the centre of Glasgow. Our instructors will set up Bottom Rope climbs and get you experiencing real rock!
The course is aimed at those who would simply like to experience climbing on real rock for the first time, or for those who wish to be able to climb comfortably on real rock before looking into learning to lead climbs outdoors.
Obviously being in Scotland the weather can be quite unpredictable, so we always recommend turning up to the site fully prepared. Make sure you have plenty of warm and waterproof clothes with you. The sun may be splitting the trees when you leave the house but it can end up blistering winds and ice cold rain by the time you arrive on the site. On the other hand, please make sure you have sunscreen and insect repellant. Sod's law you turn up wrapped up for winter and the sun is actually splitting the trees and the midge's are out in force.
Bring plenty of food and drink with you, there is nothing worse than being stuck in the middle of nowhere with no chocolate or coffee!
Typically we ask that you meet the instructor on site, who will have set up the climbs and be eagerly awaiting your arrival. Information on the climbing site and how to get to it will be posted on the website. We will also try our best to email you with directions and some information about the site and the weather.
Sessions require a minimum number of participants and may sometimes be cancelled due to small numbers or bad weather conditions. We will always try our best to give you as much notice as we can.
If you require helmet, harness or boot hire, please let us know when you are making the booking, this is included in the cost of the session.
