Countdown to Reopening
Youth Competition Squad
We at the Glasgow Climbing Centre are very proud of our coached groups, and our Competition Squad members have been having success in nationwide competitions such as the Youth Climbing Series and Scottish Schools Climbing Competition where we had seven podium placements.
The Squad meets twice a week for coaching, where individuals are trained by our experienced and qualified GCC coaches. For those on the Squad it is an incredible opportunity to enter into the friendly and welcoming world of serious climbing. For many adults, a passion for climbing has given direction to their entire life and the impact of a passionate commitment to the sport from a young age cannot be understated. With climbing becoming an Olympic Sport the necessity for structure and development within climbing has never been greater.
We run a Youth Squad selection night once every six months, usually in March and September. Anyone is welcome to come and enter free of charge, choosing to either lead climb or top rope a selection of routes and tackle a select few boulder problems. However, to be on the squad, children must be comfortable with lead climbing and able to belay safely. Commitment to attending training sessions is essential, as is a willingness to climb at least once further each week.
